Dear Parents/Guardians,
On October 22nd, all freshmen and sophomores at Blackford Junior-Senior High School
will be taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). The PSAT is a slightly
shorter version of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which is a state mandated exam students
will take in their junior year. In the past, the PSAT was only given to sophomores. This is the first
year freshmen students will be taking the test at BJSHS. The PSAT is an important part of your
child’s high school education as it serves as a practice run for the state mandated SAT (taken
during the spring of your child’s junior year). Additionally, PSAT scores can be used as
“qualifiers” for acceptance to certain dual credit courses and the results from the PSAT provide
valuable information related to college/career readiness and AP potential. Testing will begin
promptly at 8:00am.
JUNIORS and SENIORS will not attend school on Tuesday, October 22nd. All parents and/or
guardians of juniors and seniors need to submit the Google form sent to the email address in
Skyward to verify their students’ activities for the day (job shadow/internship, community
service/volunteering, scholarship work/college application completion, or college visit). Please
submit the form by Monday, October 21st. If we do not have the form completed, a parent must
call to excuse the absence or the student will be marked with an unexcused absence. Unrelated
to PSAT Day, there is no school on Wednesday, October 23rd due to Parent-Teacher
Conferences.
The form should NOT be completed by freshman, sophomore students who will all be taking the
PSAT nor should it be completed/submitted for juniors electing to take the PSAT. All freshman,
sophomores, and junior high students will report to school on October 22nd.
If you have any questions, please contact the high school at 765-348-7560.
Sincerely,
Blackford Junior-Senior High School Administrative Team
