What do you do when leprechauns invade your school every year?
You make leprechaun traps to try and capture them!
The BPS PTO held a Leprechaun Trap-making event last night in anticipation of St. Patrick's Day on Sunday. Students and their parents and grandparents crafted traps to try and capture the tricky leprechauns and of course, get their pot of gold!
Thanks to everyone for coming out and making this fun event possible for our students!

More scenes from the BIS 3rd grade Taste of Thailand Day. Students learned about the country and its culture with lessons from Pradit and Mark Dawson. Students had the opportunity to sample some Thai food that Mrs. Dawson had prepared for the students. What a fun day of learning!
It was a yummy start to the day in Mrs. Elizabeth Holdcroft's Skills class at BJSHS. Mrs. Holdcroft explained that students recently completed a recipe comprehension activity about scrambled eggs. Today, they put their skills to the test!
Nice work, Bruins!

For third grade students at Blackford Intermediate School, learning was taken to a whole new level last week as students student spent the day learning about the country of Thailand during the 19th annual Taste of Thai Day! For these lucky third graders, it was the first experience to learn about the people and culture of the country located in the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia .
Pradit and Mark Dawson (the brother of third grade teacher Carma Reidy) traveled from Norman, Oklahoma, to teach students about Thailand.
According to Mrs. Reidy, Pradit is a native of Thailand and shares her school experiences and Thai cuisine with the students. Students are presented with lessons and photographs from Thailand. They learn about the money and how to write the Thai alphabet, which Pradit explained has 44 letters.
The event included a Taste of Thai food, specially prepared by Pradit. The menu was fried pork, sticky rice, wonton, Thai bananas, cookies, and green tea. Each student received a Thai money pouch with one baht coin that Mark and Pradit brought back from Thailand.
Mrs. Reidy thanked all the parents who volunteered to help serve, including her sisters, Sandy Leer and Linda Briles.
Mrs. Reidy hopes the experience will be one the students will never forget!
Thank you, Mrs. Reidy, Mark and Pradit Dawson, and all the family and parent volunteers for making this awesome experience available to our students at the BIS!

Blackford Jr- Sr. High School received the Best Practice Award during yesterday's Indiana Association of People Supporting Employment (APSE) conference and awards luncheon in Muncie.
The award recognizes innovation, imagination, and exemplary performance to support those with disabilities to work and further their career path in an inclusive workforce. BJSHS was honored for its promotion of work and work-based learning.
According to Mrs. Linda Wallace, special needs teacher at BJSHS, "We were also commended for using a strength-based approach and making sure the needs of the students were addressed, as well as our team approach to case conferences."
"I'm incredibly proud of the way our teachers work for our students,” said Principal Jason Ridge. “Mrs. Wallace and the other teachers and aides in her department are invested in their students and care about what they do with their lives after high school. Our team of teachers and counselors genuinely care about our students and live up to our mission to empower our students to maximize their potential in school and life beyond BJSHS. It is really nice to see their efforts and the efforts of Carla Steed from Vocational Rehabilitation be recognized."
The Indiana APSE is an organization that promotes and expands quality, community employment outcomes of choice for all people with disabilities. APSE members are the foundation of advocacy for integrated employment.
