Meet Matt Carlisle, the new Band Director at Blackford Jr-Sr. High School. Carlisle comes to Blackford County via Pendleton Heights Middle School, where he most recently served as a long-term substitute teacher, working with ensembles and teaching general music and jazz band. In 2023, Carlisle student-taught under the guidance of former BJSHS Band Director Holden Berlin. A graduate of Ball State University, Carlisle also works as a Woodwind Lessons Teacher and Instrument Fitter. As he looks towards the future of the BJSHS Band, Carlisle plans to maintain and increase the involvement and presence of the band in the community, contests and overall ‘music scene.” He hopes to host community preview days for the band and looks forward to a County/Community Band and combined ensemble opportunities. BJSHS Principal Jason Ridge is excited about Carlisle taking the helm of the BJSHS Band. "Matt Carlisle is going to be a wonderful addition to BJSHS! We have been thrilled with the progress made under Mr. Berlin and feel Mr. Carlisle is the perfect person to keep the band program moving forward. His vision, experience working with high quality bands and work ethic all stood out during his interview and during his time as a student teacher. He does a tremendous job making connections with students and we are so excited to have him leading the band program!” Welcome, Mr. Carlisle!

A message passed along from BPS Media Specialist Keli Penrod: "It has been a busy few weeks for the BPS staff and students! First, our PTO celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week with a road trip-themed week. They would like to give special thanks to all of our donors including the Terrell family, Kline Family Farms, Glow Simply Candles, The Book Reader, Nails by Audge @ Reign, Granny Bloomers, Julie's Beautiful bags, Gilmans, The Copper Curl, Eclectic Blooms, and Stacey's Sweets. The week was filled with fun games, good food, giveaways, and team building! Then, we hosted the 2nd Grade Glow Dance Party to say goodbye to the class of 2034 as they head off for their new adventure at BIS. Gilman's also donated a slushie machine and our PTO gave each 2nd grade student a special color changing cup filled with either a lemonade slushie, or an apple juice slushie! Finally, today, as our teachers clean up and head out for the summer, PTO provided a snack, a pop, and a mini pool float to celebrate. We cannot wait to see you all next year! Have a fun summer!" (Thank you, BPS PTO, for all you do for our students and staff! ❤️)

Meet Aaron Daniels, the new Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Blackford Jr-Sr. High School. Daniels was approved for the position during last night’s school board meeting. Daniels comes to Blackford County via Jay County High School, where he played basketball and would later return to coach. Daniels has coached basketball and served as an assistant at the varsity level for over a decade. A graduate of Franklin College, the Portland resident also works as a Field Sales Pro for BSN Sports. “I have been fortunate to have opportunities to work with some exceptional college and high school coaches in my career. These experiences, and hard work, have prepared me to be a head coach,” says Daniels. BJSHS Principal Jason Ridge is excited about what Daniels brings to the head coach position. "We are so excited to have Coach Daniels join BJSHS. His enthusiasm for the game and working with young people was evident throughout the interview process. We wanted someone who was willing to come in and build a feeder system while also having the knowledge and experience it would take to win at the highest levels. We feel he is set up for success with our returning talent and his vision for the basketball program. This is an exciting time for our school and corporation!"

Today was Water Day! This is a PTO fundraiser where students can purchase sponges to throw at teacher and staff. The class that collected the most got to dump water buckets on Mr. Campbell and Miss Rogers!! According to Miss Rogers, "We had a tie with classes so Mrs. Thurman's class and Mrs. Hiatt's class got to soak us with buckets of water! Then the rest of the classes each got their turn to soak us with sponges and water crayons! I'm so glad it was hot this morning!" Thank you BPS PTO! What a fun day! #BetterAtBlackford
