Meet Aaron Daniels, the new Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Blackford Jr-Sr. High School. Daniels was approved for the position during last night’s school board meeting.
Daniels comes to Blackford County via Jay County High School, where he played basketball and would later return to coach. Daniels has coached basketball and served as an assistant at the varsity level for over a decade.
A graduate of Franklin College, the Portland resident also works as a Field Sales Pro for BSN Sports.
“I have been fortunate to have opportunities to work with some exceptional college and high school coaches in my career. These experiences, and hard work, have prepared me to be a head coach,” says Daniels.
BJSHS Principal Jason Ridge is excited about what Daniels brings to the head coach position. "We are so excited to have Coach Daniels join BJSHS. His enthusiasm for the game and working with young people was evident throughout the interview process. We wanted someone who was willing to come in and build a feeder system while also having the knowledge and experience it would take to win at the highest levels. We feel he is set up for success with our returning talent and his vision for the basketball program. This is an exciting time for our school and corporation!"
The BIS Top Speller for 2024 is 5th grader Colten Quillen! Colten was honored for his spelling during last night's School Board meeting. For the record, Colten told Superintendent Chad Yencer that his winning word was "hobbit."
Way to go, Colten! Keep up the great spelling work!

Thank you to BJSHS students (from left) Daymon Highley, Logan Wilson and Conner Prosser for serving as the mail delivery team for the 24-25 school year. They did a great job!
As you can see, they're already planning for the summer in their pineapple glasses! Thanks, guys! ☺️
Today was Water Day! This is a PTO fundraiser where students can purchase sponges to throw at teacher and staff. The class that collected the most got to dump water buckets on Mr. Campbell and Miss Rogers!!
According to Miss Rogers, "We had a tie with classes so Mrs. Thurman's class and Mrs. Hiatt's class got to soak us with buckets of water! Then the rest of the classes each got their turn to soak us with sponges and water crayons! I'm so glad it was hot this morning!"
Thank you BPS PTO! What a fun day!

Welcome, new first graders!
First grade students in Mrs. Amanda Wolfe's class at BPS partnered up with Ms. Molly Ault's kindergarten class for a Q & A about first grade. Mrs. Wolfe's students designed matching friendship bracelets to give to their new kindergarten friends. They introduced themselves and gave them a matching bracelet. The students spent 15 minutes touring the classroom and asking questions about first grade. It was such a sweet time.
